ScribePost: April 22 (20.1 &20.2) Endocrine system

Today in class we got an information overload, so here is a little review:

20.1 Endocrine Glands:

  • Play very important role in homeostatis
  • Produce hormones: These hormones are secrete directly into tissue fluid, then diffused into our blood stream

There are 2 control mechanisms to release hormones:

  1. Negative feedback
  2. Control by the presence of an atagonistic hormone *more important out of two*

Here are 2 videos that talk about the Endocrine System

  1. http://kidshealth.org/kid/htbw/ESmovie.html (Funny)
  2. http://videos.howstuffworks.com/hsw/5352-organ-systems-the-endocrine-system-video.htm

20.2 Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland

Hypothalamus: Important homeostatic control center, it regulates water balence, hunger, body temperatur, hunger, and satiety. It also controls the Pituitary Gland

Pituitary Gland: Composed of 2 bodies

  1. Anterior Pituitary- Secreates at least 6 different hormones- 3 out of 6 hormones have a target effect on other glands they are: TSH, ACTH, Gonadotrophic The other 3 do not have an effect on other glands they are: MSH, Growth hormone, and Prolactin
  2. Posterior Pituitary- Stores ADH and Oxytocin, which are produced in hypothalamus

I hope this will help you in your 10 minute review tonight!

PS: The information in pink is important!!!!

I really really really liked your numbers and organization- it made all that we learned today seem not quite so overwhelming. I also find that I can study/remember stuff better when its organized in numbers. theres so many big words in this section though, its scary.

everythings really organized! looks really really great, and easy to follow (the seperating with different colours is affective with that) and yes i agree with rebecca.. so its nice to see that you got some really good simple videos

nicely done!

i like how you shortened all the information down to only the super important things. its also helpful how you put the very important points in pink

Nice job, Kacey. Here's a question for you: If you had to choose one of the 6 hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary, which one would you say is the most important, and why?

If your name is NOT Kacey, feel free to try and answer this question on your comment.

Awesome post Kacey! The video's really helped. My favourite hormone is growth hormone. Its simple and the name tells you what it does!

So this might be a little late but if I had to choose one out of the 6anterior hormones I would choose:

The Growth Hormone because it stimulates bone and muscle growth in our body, it increases protein synthesis and fat metabolism.

This Hormone is important becuase we need in to grow!!!!
